Shelter Maintenance
In November 2017, ANE considered substantial maintenance for the total of 130 shelters with the range of damages at Dillo and Megado Refugee Camps, Oromia Regional State. With the funding supports provided by UNHCR, ANE had undertook the maintenance activities by engaging the refugee beneficiaries along the technical supports availed by hired carpenters. This intervention helped the refugees to have extended period use of the shelters.
Subsequent to all the preparation and material mobilization undertaken in the 2018 Project Implementation Period, ANE was able to complete the necessary maintenance of 691 transitional shelters in Bambasi, Sherkole and Tongo Refugee Camps, Assosa Operation. In this intervention, total of 411 considered major maintenances whereas 280 shelters were able to undergo minor maintenance.
In 2020 Budget Year, ANE, in partnership with UNHCR and RRS, was able to start implementation Cash Based Interventions (CBIs) for the first time in providing selected 92 vulnerable refugee households cash grant support for shelter maintenance in Assosa Operation(Tongo, Bambasi and Sherkole Camps).
In the same period, ANE also assisted Assosa Operation in drafting the SOPs governing this particular project implementation entailing cash grant support for shelter maintenance activities. As this program expanded in 2021, ANE’s project intervention significantly grew and provided total of 154 vulnerable families CBAs supports for shelter maintenance in four refugee camps of Assosa operation. In Gambella operation, ANE underwent necessary maintenance undertakings for total 210 transitional shelters in Jewi and Kule Refugee Camp in Gambella operation in 2020 budget year.
In 2021, ANE provided similar intervention covering numbers of transitional shelters in Gambella Operation. In 2020, ANE also provided 80 Shelter construction Materials, Maintenance Tool Kits and further shelter construction technical support for IDP and returnees in West Guji Zone areas.
In 2022, ANE collaboration with FRC supported conflict-affected communities by distributing emergency shelter repair kits for 90 HHs to repair their partially damaged houses and distributing Non-Food Items for 420 HH beneficiaries who lost their cooking and other items because of the conflict.
